Ostertag, Martin cello
After completing his secondary education, Martin Ostertag, born in Lörrach/Germany, studied with Leo Koscielny at the University of Music in Karlsruhe and with André Navarra in Paris and Detmold.
In 1967, he was a prizewinner of the international competition in Vienna, and in 1968/69, of the Bundesauswahl ‘Konzerte Junger Künstler‘ of the Deutscher Musikrat.
After engagements as solo cellist in Düsseldorf and Berlin (Amati-Ensemble, Deutsche Oper), he joined the SWR Baden-Baden and Freiburg Symphony Orchestra in the same position in 1974. He is a sought-after music partner and music mediator, both as soloist and as chamber musician and lecturer. In addition to various appearances as soloist and chamber musician, he conducts international master classes in Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Germany, Finland, Italy and Japan. Numerous concert tours have led him through Europe and overseas. He has recorded numerous discs with Antes, Ariol, Aurophon, Bayer Records, CPO, Dabringhaus & Grimm, Deutsche Grammophon, Marco Polo, Naxos and Sony.
Since 1980, he has been working as professor for violoncello at the University of Music in Karlsruhe, training an entire generation of successful young cellists.
